Frequently Asked Questions
Who usually comes on Vision Quests?
There is really no one particular group of people who choose to quest. This is a diverse activity undertaken by a variety of different people at different stages of their lives. Everyone is welcome. However we do spend time talking to you and investigating together that this is the right timing and placement in your life for you to undertake the Vision Quest.
What preparation is required?
We strongly recommend that the decision to do a Vision Quest be taken as far in advance of the start date as possible. However we require a minimum of a month before the start date (we generally close applications at this stage). Preparation includes a day long Medicine Walk alone in the wild, as well as monitoring your diet in preparation for fasting. On receipt of your application form and deposit we will send you a Guide which contains all the information you will need for preparation.
How much does it cost?
The fee for the Vision Quest is R6500. This includes all facilitation and guiding, accommodation and food for the time prior to and after the fast. This fee is subject to change if accommodation availability changes.
The cost of travel to and from the wilderness is not included and possible meal at a restaurant will be at participants own expense.
I can't afford this - do you do payment plans?
Yes, we feel very strongly that if you are called to Vision Quest that, we will support you in that. We are willing to negotiate on reasonable payment plans if this is necessary for you. Please ask.
Where is the Vision Quest held?
We are privileged to have access to private land in Mpumalanga near to Loskop Dam for our time in the Wilderness. Details of how to get there will be given in advance.
Sometimes it is necessary to hold the time before and after the solo in Johannesburg. If this should be the case it will be in a safe and secluded space where you will be able to retreat in preparation for the solo time. We will let you know of this well in advance of the start of the Vision Quest.
Should I be worried about fasting?
Fasting is often a key concern for people. In a healthy state our bodies can go without food for prolonged periods - as long as we continue to drink water. If you have any serious health concerns we recommend that you consult with your doctor before coming on the Vision Quest.
Is this a religious process?
Vision Quests are non-sectarian in nature. All religions are welcomed and we do not follow any prescribed religious processes. We believe that this is a spiritual experience, not necessarily a religious one.
